"It's because I love apple martinis isn't it?"   While the thought never crossed our mind, it stemmed this designers inspiration. Designer 03   Inspiration: I was thinking that maybe I talk too much about enjoying a good apple martini after work (wink wink). That’s when I came up with a play on that theme. I thought what do cocktail parties have in common? A little black dress, some shimmer & glam and obviously drinks; since most drinks have some sort of fruit juice in them, why not use fruits? From there, I got something black (flowers), something shimmery (vine) and some fruits.   Biggest Challenge: Getting the apples to hang. I had to tie thread around the stems and they kept coming off. Finally I added a dab of super glue to the string to hold it on.    Favorite Feature: The vine was really cool. I liked the glitter it had on it but really I loved the pears the most. The whole time I was stringing the pears I was thinking, I’m gonna try a pear martini when I get home. No seriously, I also got into the color scheme. Each color holds its own without taking away from each other. That’s important when designing a focal point.     Alternate Ideas: I would think in the summer, it would be a great idea to have a lemon or some sort of citrus tree style. Citrus colored parties or receptions are very popular.     Final thoughts: I think this design is a great choice for budget events. By swaging the strands, you only need a few. The large flowers really fill up the tree.

Metal Tree Color: I wanted the ivory metal tree because I felt it wouldn’t compete with the black, green and silvery fruits as much as the bronze tree might. I would have painted the tree a metallic silver color if I thought it would have dried in time for me to still decorate it.    Tree Size: I used the 5 foot tall one. I actually wanted the 3 ½ foot tree but grabbed the wrong box. Once I put it together I realized my mistake, but stuck with the new taller size centerpiece.  Crystal Type: I chose the acrylic because I realized how inexpensive this centerpiece could actually be, so I carried that through by choosing the black acrylic strands. It would have worked with the glass, but with acrylic it saves a few bucks. Later I was thinking that anyone could do a tree like this for any party for less than most floral centerpieces. Crystal Count: I used 8 acrylic black strands in a swag style. This went really fast in about 5 minutes I had all the strands looped around the branches.   Accessories: I used black velvet flowers. They were really big so I only needed a few. I don’t know if you will be able to see it in the photos but the vines had a shimmery glitter on them. They were really easy to wrap around the tree and branches.   Tree Base: I had some left over fruits and the painted needles that came in the box so I just placed those around the base. I would have put cocktail glasses with candles in them but there wasn’t any around.
