When Cristalier Designer #4 faced the challenge to create a crystal Birthday Party Tree in one hour or less, the first thing that happened was...

Inspiration:
Birthdays to me are a symbol of celebration recognizing the acomplishments of the years prior and a fresh start for the year to come. As woman, we should not fear each year, but look at it as a chance to reinvent ourselves just like the butterfly. This was my design inspiration.
 
 
Biggest Challenge:
I don't think I had any. I felt at peace with each step of the design. If I could change one thing i personally would have used nice pink, cream and light green votives in the glass votive holders. This would add a touch more detail.
  
 
Favorite Feature:
I love the AB crystals. They gave the perfect irradescant glow to the tree. When the light hit those crystals it was like watching little rainbows dancing everywhere.
 
Alternate Ideas:
AB crystal strands could replace some of the clear strands, but I wouldn't use all AB. I believe that less is more. The AB crystals are very special and the beautiful sparkle they give should be admired individually. For designs that are on a more stringent budget, organza ribbons could be used in soft pastel colors to hang large Clear and Ab crystals.

Final thoughts:
I still can't believe that my tree won for Best Design! I was very nervous working along other designers who have been with Cristalier for so long. I really thought about the feedback I get everyday from so many Brides, Wedding Planners, Designers and Florists. By working with many of them in mind, I feel this tree could represent not just a Birthday Crystal tree but a Crystal Tree for all events!
Metal Tree Color: I knew that when working with pastel colors the only option would be the Classic Ivory Tree.
 
Tree Size: Any size tree would work with this design. As a metal ornament tree, choosing the standard 60" branches, was a safe choice.
 
Crystal Type: While I can appreciate the fire and sparkle of Swarovski Strass lead crystals, I want to create a tree that was middle of the budget, so I chose to mix the lead strands with glass crystal garland. Alot of people feel the only way to get sparkle is with lead crystals. This simply is not true. Glass strands sparkle also, it all depends on the lighting. By mixing the two, you can save money. Place the leaded strands on the outer branches and fill inwards with glass strands of crystals.
 
Crystal Count: There are 45 strands of crystals on this tree. Most of them are 18 to 24 inches in length. At the ends of approx half of the strands, I hung 50mm AB Swedish Oval crystals. This really set off the tree and took it from pretty to beautiful!
 
Accessories: I used feather butterflies in pastel colors. These are very high quality with delicate wings. To attach them to the metal tree, I hot glued our crystal magnets to the underside of each butterfly. This made it easy to adjust the placement of the butterflies.
 
Tree Base: I didn't want anything to compete with the AB crystals, so I just scattered silk rose petals around the base.
Designer Notes:
 
I really enjoy researching ideas for new ways to display ornamental metal trees with crystals. I find that when talking with Brides who want to know how to make a crystal wedding tree, budget is as important as overall design.

When deciding on how much to spend on artificial manzanita branches centerpieces, remember there is plenty of places to resell your crystal trees when your event is over. I always tell Brides to ask the florists, if they would be interested in buying a used crystal wedding tree. Often you will find you can offer your trees to florists, event designers, planners, coordinators, caters, even the hall or hotel at a discount and they will be more than happy to buy them from you.

If you have purchased alot of trees that you want to sell at a discount, contact local bridal rental facilities. After they see how the metal crystal trees sparkle, be ready for a bidding war! Speaking of bidding, as a last resort you can always offer your trees on ebay.
